The Yarn

The Starry Ridge Coaster is made using Brand Re-Up Yarn

  • Fibre content: 70% Recycled Cotton, 30% Recycled Polyester

  • Weight: Worsted / #4

  • Yardage: Approximately 14 yd (13 m).

  • Care instructions: Machine washable, Machine Dry

  • Written in US crochet terms.

  • Work in joined rounds unless otherwise stated.

  • Ch-1 at the beginning of rounds does not count as a stitch unless otherwise stated

  • The pattern is worked in multiples of 2.

  • This pattern uses the Modified Start Stitch.


Abbreviations:

  • ch - chain

  • sp - space

  • rep - repeat

  • sc - single crochet

  • sc 3rd loop - sc in the 3rd loop 

  • sk - skip

  • sl st - slip stitch

  • st(s) - stitch(es)

  • hdc - half double crochet

  • hdc blo - half double crochet 3rd loop

  • Star st - Star Stitch

  • Beg Star st - Beginning Star

  • shell - 4 double crochet worked into indicated st

Gauge is not necessary for this pattern

Special Stitches:


The Star Stitch

Beginning Modified Star Stitch: Ch 3. Insert hook into 2nd ch from hook, yo, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook). Insert hook into next ch, yo, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Insert hook into first st, yo, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook). Yo, (5 loops on hook). Insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop (6 loops on hook). Yo, pull through all 6 loops. Ch 1 to close star.



Modified Star Stitch: Insert hook into ch-1 sp of star just made, yo, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook). Insert hook into side of star, yo, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Insert hook into st at base of star, yo, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook). Yo,  (5 loops on hook). Insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop (6 loops on hook). Yo, pull through all 6 loops. Ch 1 to close star.



sc 3rd Loop: to work into the 3rd Loop, work in the loop behind the top V of the indicated st.



Coaster Instructions 


Round 1: ch 4, sl st to first ch to form a ring.

ch 1, 8 hdc into the ring. sl st to first st to join. 8hdc


Round 2: ch 1. 2 sc in each st around. Join with a sl st to the first st. 16 sc.


Round 3: ch 3 Work first beg star st. Work star st around. Join with a sl st to the top of the first Star st. 15 Star sts


Tip

When finishing the Star st rounds. Finish the last star st by drawing up the last loop of the st in the first st of the round. By working the last stitch this way, you will avoid having holes in your project.



Round 4:  ch 1, *1 hdc in the top of the first Star st, 1 hdc in the ch-1 sp, repeat from * around. sl st to the first hdc. 34 hdc 


Round 5:  ch 1, *2 sc in the 3rd loop, sc in the 3rd loop, rep from * around. Join with sl st to the first sc. 51 sc


Round 6: ch 1, * sc, sk a st, shell in the next st, rep from * around. Join with sl st to the first sc. 


Fasten off and weave in ends.
