Special Stitches:
The Star Stitch
Beginning Star Stitch: Ch 3. Insert hook into 2nd ch from hook, yo, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook). Insert hook into next ch, yo, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Insert hook into first st, yo, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook). Insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop (5 loops on hook). Insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop (6 loops on hook). Yo, pull through all 6 loops. Ch 1 to close star.
Star Stitch: Insert hook into ch-1 sp of star just made, yo, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook). Insert hook into side of star, yo, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Insert hook into st at base of star, yo, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook). Insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop (5 loops on hook). Insert hook into next st, yo, pull up a loop (6 loops on hook). Yo, pull through all 6 loops. Ch 1 to close star.
sc 3rd loop: to work into the 3rd Loop, work in the loop behind the top V of the indicated st.
Cup Cozy Instructions
ch 32. sl st to beginning ch to join
Round 1: ch 1. 1 hdc in each row of the band. Join with a sl st to the first hdc. 32 hdc.
Round 2: ch 1. 1 sc 3rd loop each st around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. 32 sc.
Round 3: ch 3 Work beg star st. Work star st around. Join with a sl st to the top of the first Star st. 16 star sts.
Tip: When finishing the Star ST rounds. Finish the last Star ST by drawing up the last loop of the ST in the first ST of the round. By working the last stitch this way, you will avoid having holes in your project.
Round 4: ch 1, * 2 hdc in the ch- 1 sp repeat form * around. Join sl st to the first hdc. 32 hdc.
Round 5: ch 1. 1 sc 3rd loop each st around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. 32 sc.
Small Size: Proceed to shell round.
Large Size: Round 6-8: rep rounds 3-5
Shell Round: ch 1. sc, sk next st, * shell, sk next st, sc rep from * around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. 8 sc, 8 shell sts. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Working along the bottom: Attach yarn. ch 1. sc, sk next st, * shell, sk next st, sc rep from * around. Join with a sl st to the first sc. 8 sc, 8 shell sts. Fasten off. Weave in ends
